So Z, the 3 year old, can put on his own shoes and socks. I taught him young so I wouldn't have to do it for him. Recently I went against my own personal belief system and bought him a pair of Velcro shoes. He's only three, and I knew he was not going to be tying his shoes anytime soon. With the addition of the girls, making sure socks and shoes are on has become a challenge. Even though Z could put on his socks and shoes, 50% of the time they were on the wrong foot.
So he started asking me ALL THE TIME, "MOMMY, is this the right way?" After the twentieth time, I was done.
So I tried to teach him the-toes-need-to-be-pointed-together-rule... it didn't work. "Maybe he isn't that bright," I thought to myself. : )
So, I had to come up with a brilliant idea. Here it is.
I put dots on the shoes. I told Z he needed to put the dots together. If he did, he would always have his shoes on the correct foot. IT WORKED! He has done great all week, and has not asked me for any help. Getting out of the house is a little bit easier for me, and he feels like a BIG boy.

Good One! Way to go Z!

I can't believe I never thought of this! I can't even get my 5 year old to get them on the correct feet, much less my 2 year old
I'm getting out the permanent marker right now.......
