It is amazing when you have one of those days where things just go right. The hubby was not home for the after-school-dinner-shower-bedtime marathon. He spent a few hours with our oldest (we share custody) and was then stuck in the typical “it‘s California and nobody knows how to drive in the rain” traffic.
Because of the rain, we could not play outside. Something very strange happened. The boys decided to play by themselves, NICELY! I did not have to go upstairs once to stop an argument. Not once! It was very pleasent to just do nothing. It was very strange.
Four o‘clock rolled around, and it was time to wake up the baby. She was playing in her crib, just having a good old time. I found out that the boys were coloring a book for their oldest brother who they miss. We all came downstairs. I had to give the baby her bottle. The boys continued to draw. I started dinner and we were ready to eat by 5:15. Dinner was pleasent, no screaming... everybody ate! Cookies were passed out, which is rare. We usually only have dessert on Sunday. Ice cream Sunday. Get it? Ice cream Sundae on Sunday? Yes, I’m stupid! Everyone brought their dishes and cups to the counter, then off to the showers. I had all of them bathed, pj‘d, teeth brushed and they picked out their clothes for tomorrow all by six!! I was impressed with myself! And with my kids!
I felt great! The dinner dishes were put into the dish washer, clothes in the clothes washer, all ready to be cleaned for the next day!
I needed this kind of day. Today, I feel like a great mom. A great woman. I feel confident about who I am and what I do.
Tomorrow? That might be another story!
I will bask in the glow of this day and hope that another one just like it will come again soon!
